The Lazos de Ayuda Foundation once again brought a message of love and affection to the most needy in northern Peru.
This Monday, December 7, 2020, we visited the Santa Maria de Josefa children’s shelter in Ferreñafe, where around 40 children aged 0 to 6 live under the protection of a group of nuns.
The Lazos de Ayuda Foundation made a contribution of $8000 during this very difficult year of confinement and health precautions caused by the Covid-19 virus.
We also donated clothes and toys that were received with much joy and excitement.
The shelter staff showed us the progress and improvements they have made with the donations.
However, they still need more contributions to achieve the goal of providing the children with a better quality of life and a quality education.
The Santa María de Josefa shelter began its work in 1991, housing children who had been abandoned, some of them in hospitals or even in garbage dumps. Many of them had suffered domestic violence, others had been physically and psychologically abused. But as the mothers indicate, they are more than just unwanted children, they are human beings who aspire to grow up to be good adults. The nuns provide them with motherly warmth and care for them until they are 6 years old. Then they refer them to other shelters.
There are 37 children who are clothed and fed thanks to the charity of individuals and organizations that do not forget their needs. The nuns say that the institution needs more teachers and psychologists but they have very little money to make new hires.
The Lazos de Ayuda Foundation continues its commitment not to abandon them and to continue supporting them until their main objectives of self-sustainability have been achieved.
